How It Happens

Every Tyrant enters office joyfully carried on the backs of
lumpen.

Every reactionary piece of legislation is supported by those who
have the most to lose.

Whether the Tyrant is Hitler or Mugabe, whether the legislation
the Gun Court in Jamaica or the Patriot Act in America, the
lumpen vehemently supports whatever will limit his rights.

Where the Intelligent considers how policies or legislation could impact on his or her life, the lumpen believes in a nebulous 'Them'
who will experience oppression.

"If they come for me in Morning..."

Do these mind dead morons prancing about as if a State of
Emergency is a good thing begin to comprehend what a police
state looks like?
Do they understand the base intellect of a police officer?
Do they understand that all cats are grey in the dark?

In civilised places the usual procedure is to gather evidence,
arrest and charge and detain.

In Jamaica the double digit cop flings unknown people scraped up
in a street sweep into a lockup and over a period of months finds
a charge, arrests, then gathers evidence.

Over 1000 citizens of Jamaica lose their liberty, and after one
or two or three months in custody, detained under this 'State
of Emergency', charges are now laid, arrests are now made, and
after one or two or three months in custody, these citizens
will face a Court which will see nothing peculiar about the
time of detention, and order the person returned to a cell, a
trial date sent a few months hence.

And after spending six months or so in jail, brought to Court
on the first trial date, where no witnesses appear, it is not
likely the accused will get bail.

Because the charge will contain the magic word 'Gun'.

Serving a two year pre-trial sentence is not unusual in Jamaica.

The Lumpen, those most likely to be taken up in street sweep and
incarcerated while a charge is searched for, are angry that PNP
did not agree to extend the State of Emergency for thirty days,
requesting rather fifteen.

During the State of Emergency; soldiers armed for Iraq up the
side streets, doing road blocks insuring any tourist will
understand that Jamaica is no place for a vacation.

Jamaicans have so fully embraced the absence of rights
that slavery could be reimplemented without much quarrel.
